Information Technology is prominent in every single aspect of business, which is why it’s so important to be knowledgeable about IT. In today’s world, IT is something that we use every single day. Whether it be in our professional or personal life, it is necessary to have access to and know how to use technology. Although marketing is seen as a more creative and personal side of business, rather than a technical side, you must be proficient in IT in order to be successful in the field. It doesn’t matter if you’re in sales or you’re in advertising, IT is important to know in order to communicate effectively to your consumers in today’s world. I hope to begin my career in the advertising function of marketing. Advertising relies heavily on Information Technology to function in today’s business world. I believe the most important IT aspect in advertising today is the Internet. It’s cost effective, quick, and easy. Marketing in the past relied heavily on word of mouth, paper advertisements in the mail, direct sales, or billboards and was very expensive, hard to track the results, and had a hard time reaching a large audience quickly while still being cost effective (Lilyquist). Data mining allows brand managers and their employees to process big amounts of data and extract new patterns from it. Just like for marketers, this gives brand managers a huge advantage in finding data about what customers think about their product, when and where they buy their product, and what other products they typically buy with theirs.
