An exciting adventure awaits Sunshine Griffith in the novel story, The Haunting of the Sunshine Girl, by Paige McKenzie, Nick Hagen, and Alyssa Sheinmel; published by Scholastic Inc., on September 2015. Although there are other thrilling tween books, I think this story is different from other novel stories because of the goose bumps it sends to those who will dare to read this book. There are numerous plot twists and heart breakers along the journey that Sunshine and readers will go through. In the beginning Sunshine is moving from Austin, Texas to Ridgemont, Washington. She did not know she was one. Kat and Sunshine moved to Ridgemont not knowing how life changing their move would be. Only Sunshine could tell there was a spirit in the house when they first moved into the house. She hypothesized that it was a little girl who was haunting her. Sunshine thought the girl must have been at least 10 years old when she was killed. But it was different for a haunting to be friendly like the ghost girl was. As she goes to school in Victoria Wilde’s art class there is a boy named Nolan who is Sunshine’s first friend in Ridgemont. He believes Sunshine when she tells him about the ghost and the weird vibe she gets being in the house. Nolan digs through his grandfathers papers to see if there is anything on ghosts and hauntings in the area. He stumbles upon a paper on a college professor who did research on ghosts. Nolan takes sunshine to the professor’s office. The professor gives them a book that looks centuries old, but he says an unrecognizable word, he said luiseach. As they left, they had more questions than answers. The next day they went back to see the professor, but there was nothing there, no sign of life not even the desk the professor sat at was there. After their disappointing discovery, Nolan told Sunshine about luiseach and why they are here on the earth. Hearing this she was shocked. One minute till the ball drops. Nolan is back. He and Ms. Victoria are both sitting on Sunshine’s couch waiting for the ball to drop. Kat and Sunshine both walked into the kitchen unaware of each other. Kat tells Sunshine she starts making popcorn for the guest and tells Sunshine to go and sit with Nolan. At the same time, Nolan and Victoria walk in to the kitchen wondering what is taking so long. Everyone realizes that Kat is not in control of herself anymore. She is being controlled by the water demon. The water demon dashes from one side of the kitchen to the other. It snatches Nolan up and takes him to the spot it was earlier. Sunshine screams at the demon demanding it to release her friend so they could fight. 5. But the demon was being incorporative. 4. The demon takes Nolan’s head and slams it against the marble counters. 3. Nolan’s limp body falls to the floor; blood runs down his head onto the floor. Sunshine rushes to him and cries, as she knows it was her fault he got hurt. Next victoria shows that she knows the demon. 2. The demon recognizes her; they begin to fight as water stars to come in the house. 1. Throw the pipes and the floor. 0. The water star to raise sunshine hears the cheering of the people that the count down was over it was News year’s day. Sunshine pulls out the ancient luiseach weapon.
