He then tells Huck that he is not allowed to get educated, so Huck gets inspired to work at school. The judge tries to reform Pap, but he gets drunk. Pap routinely gets drunk and abuses Huck after kidnapping and taking him to a shack by the river, which is one of the reasons Huck seeks freedom.
This is the main reason why Huck fakes his death and goes into hiding. He hides in the woods for days and days trying to avoid being found by other people until one day, he finds Jim and they begin their journey for freedom. Pap is blamed for Huck Finn’s murder, but then everyone decides that it is easier to blame a black man instead of Pap Finn. At the end of the book, it is revealed that the dead body in the cabin was Huck’s own father.
Another reason he escapes St. Petersburg is because he doesn’t want to be civilized. He likes to be uncivilized and independent, but Miss Watson and Widow Douglas think that he should change his ways so that he can be presentable in case if people come. He is a dirty kid and frequently homeless, and his dad disappears every so often, leaving him alone for months on end.
