Throughout this book, Huck has been helping Jim become free and protecting him from incarceration. Jim has been looking out for Huck too; by guiding Huck throughout their voyage. Huck and Jim held onto each other’s friendship like it was the last valuable thing they had. It’s important to hang on to friendships because even if our house burnt to the ground or you’re amputee survivor, you’ll still have those friendships that can’t ever be severed. You can lose material possessions and parts of your body, but one thing that’s hard to lose are those strong friendships. Huck and Jim had each other’s backs the whole time without question, just like Anna had for Elsa in the Frozen movie. Secondly, Jim was extremely patient and it paid off in his freedom at the end. Jim has probably been craving for freedom since he left the Watson’s estate, but he didn’t let his emotions show his anxiousness. He showcased his calmness by letting Tom Sawyer’s outrageous plan unfold; he obeyed every miniscule detail in Tom and Huck’s plan, he even slept with spiders and wrote a journal in blood on his shirt. Jim is composed, patient self-allowed him to achieve his freedom. By being patient in our day to day lives, we can be successful in accomplishing our goals.
