Although the police were sometimes involved in matter concerning Holmes, no legal action was actually taken against him. Matters concerning the rich and the upcoming exposition overshadowed any reports of disappearances and possible murders . But for the police of Chicago, this was the everyday norm. Most officers with any type of power were the result of the spoils system, and even with years and years of experience still lacked the skill to investigate and prove the guilt of a man like Holmes. “His techniques were too new, his skills too great…” to be captured by men who were “…too naïve…,” like the police.…

Sherlock Holmes was not guilty for the accidental death of Dr. Grimesby Roylott. A multitude of examples support this claim. First, Sherlock Holmes protected himself from a poisonous snake. Holmes was not just going to await to be bitten by a snake and perish miserably. A second thought is that Sherlock Holmes had not a clue of where Dr. Roylott was located in the chamber adjacent to the one he held a secretive stakeout inside of.…

For every hero he or she always has to have a sidekick. He begins to take some guesses about where Dodd is from by saying, “from South Africa, sir, I perceive,” “Imperial Yeomanry, I fancy,” “Middlesex Corps, no doubt,” all were accurate, giving James the same shock as Helen Stoner (Doyle, The Blanched Soldier 1). James did most of the investigation himself before meeting with Sherlock, while he trusted his every word he listened carefully to the evidence given to him by James. Conan Doyle displays Sherlock Holmes’ genius observation skills by impressing his clients at first chance to show it was not something of magic but mere sense of logic and observation and responds to their state of shock with, “I see no more than you, but I have trained myself to notice what I see,” (Doyle, The Blanched Soldier 1). During the Victorian Era interest in knowledge is important with cases like these while Doyle clearly shows this through…

After Dr. Roylott threatened Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, a new, smaller conflict was added to the story.…
However, “The Dying Detective” had its own exclusive concepts that did not exist in “Invitation to a Murder.” The initial mood of this story was sorrowful, as Dr. Watson and Mrs. Hudson believed Holmes was on the brink of death. In opposition, Mrs. Abbott’s glee as to killing her husband created a rather happy mood for that tale. Furthermore, to please his dear friend, the loyal Dr. Watson obeyed each of Holmes’ instructions, despite their eccentric qualities. The twelve law enforcers did not act quite the same, as they attempted to prevent Mrs. Abbott’s murder, regardless of her desires.…
