The Advantages Of American Exceptionalism

Decent Essays
American exceptionalism can be a contributing factor leading them to want to excel even on trade. Nevertheless, trade is not about who is the winner in the game, trade is about who has a better comparative advantage. In the eyes of the world, America’s number one place is getting obscured by that of China to the point that Americans see it as a backlash. In reality China is changing so rapidly that I am afraid America will be able to keep up with China. But China’s rapid growth should not be an intimidating factor for America, and as the author stated “Stop Blaming China and India”. Rather American should see it as an opportunity to find goods and services cheaper than they would if they produce them themselves. Without free trade, we would

Therefore, China will have a difficult time preventing the currency from appreciating, which in turn will make exports from China less beneficial (Bradsher). Due to the ironclad law, China’s goods will not be as desirable (Trefler 42). Even though the U.S. owes China a large sum of money for the exports brought into the country, eventually the yuan will rise to a level that is no longer competitive (Trefler 42). When the U.S. buys goods from China, the U.S. needs to buy the Chinese yuan to complete the transaction. As the U.S. continues to demand goods from China, it will increase the value of China’s currency.…

Historians realize that the United States and other western powers are wealthy and powerful but are unsure if China views them as an example. We could assume that China resents these nations wealth. Once again the root of this theory is speculative and without more evidence, what is the ultimate goal? The liberalism method relies on the presumption that China considers power to be national wealth. A lack of evidence to prove or disprove this assumption make this theory unlikely.…

As a result, both countries would expand their military increasing the likely chance of war in the future. Furthermore, optimistic realism argues that China is not as militarized as the U.S. For example, China is increasing its aircrafts, naval capabilities, and military budget, yet their military is not adequate to overthrow that of the U.S. With regards to optimistic realism, it supports the theory that the U.S does not fear their security dilemma because of factors that slow China’s progress, such as “ creating efficient, equitable, and open legal and financial institution” (Friedberg 19). As a result, this hinders China’s growth and “will most likely continue to lag and may even fall further behind” (Freidberg). All these factors result to a…

A tariff like the one spoken of will only help domestic producers as they will now be willing to increase production as the tariff makes it profitable even if the world price does not. The government also wins as they now can gain money they previously weren’t able to. On the other hand, consumers lose out as they must now pay more money. Meaning tariffs aren’t a good thing and instead affect the economic well-being of the country. His reasoning for a tariff in order to stop unemployment is also flawed because unemployment does not rise when imports…

China is often used as a scapegoat for opponents of globalization who say the U.S. should increase tariffs or cut trade with China (by far largest trade deficit of the 100+ deficits the U.S. enjoys), but what these opponents fail to realize is that it is only because of globalization that the U.S. is able to continue growing right now. With the massive savings shortfall in the U.S. economic growth would not be possible without importing surplus savings from abroad and having these deficits. Globalization is good for the…

Whether the production process will take place in the host country or the product will just be imported is a matter of export, joint venture or FDI mode of entry into the new market. They will be explained later in the work. However, judging by the data of the case, the ease of doing business in China is 91/183 and that of Saudi Arabia is 12/183. Also, the time required to start a business (in days) is 38 for China and 5 for Saudi Arabia. In this train of thoughts, if the production has to potentially move, then China may be the better choice because the ease of doing business is more important than how fast you start it.…

The US is interested in the deal so it can be more involved in trade and not let China have more power then they do in the global trading market. The TPP is so controvesial because the terms of the agreement weren 't disclosed at first and once they were they weren 't exactly what was expected of them to be.It is also controvesial because some econmists say that the United States economy will grow by about half a percent while others say that it will hurt the economy by half a percent.According to citizen.org/tpp another problem that has been brought up with it is allowing pharmacutical companies to hold longer patents and control the prices of their medicine. Internet usage will also be monitored in a way that will allow the government to see what you are doing at all times.I think that congress shouldn 't pass the TPP because their is to much uncertanity.According to ustr.gov the TPP will help increase the amount of exports that we send overseas which will help our economy, and many consumer goods will become cheaper since they will be imported for the cheapest price possible(Bradsher and Pollack, 2015) however it doesn 't tell you that…

The wealthy are no longer flaunting their wealth because pf the high-profile trials that have been taking place in China in regard to corrupt individuals. That being the case, I would suggest to LVMH that they caution that while China has been a high revenue for them, that the trend to purchase their high quality products is lessening and so is the revenue that China was once creating. With China’s economy slowing, it doesn’t appear that there will be a substantial economic growth anytime in the near future that will tip the scales back to the positive gain. LVMH may want to look at lessening their presence in China by closing down some of their store locations that would be considered in their top-tier locations and concentrate more on the second and third-tier city stores that target the individuals that are newly rich and continue to seek out luxury goods. LVMH…

Work and success is far more important than leisure and time off work in China. It defines your value and who you are as a person. America scores a 68 within this dimension meaning they are considered an indulgent country as opposed to restrained. Americans have the “work hard, play hard” mentality, meaning that one deserves to play as much as they work. While both success and leisure time are important to Americans, they do not feel you should have to sacrifice one for the other.…

China is aggressively attempting to become a power that can rival America, and it will not be content with maintaining the US status quo. If Layne’s “Pax Americana” or exclusive American domination will indeed come to an end, international relations will decline. By consequence, military strength and national interests will once again take a higher priority, giving strength to the realist theory. The main thing that I took away from reading these texts is that our world, politics and power are constantly changing. It is easy to assume that the current status quo is permanent because it is easy to look at how the world has changed in the past and forget that it will change as rapidly and drastically in the future as well.…
