Biofuel Uses. It is a common misnomer that whenever term “biofuel” is prompted, it is somehow associated with use in automobiles, trucks and possibly planes. Whereas, due to diversity, biofuels have the capacity to replace all types of human energy needs from home heating to vehicle fuel and most importantly electricity generation. This has been explained below:-.
(a) Transportation. Globally, transportation accounts for 25% of energy demand and consumes nearly 62% of fossil oil. 4. Advantages of Biofuel. Before further discourse, it is important to discuss the advantages of biofuel to fully understand the benefits associated with this if adopted. Some of these are proffered below:-
(a) Environmental Benefit. As compared to fossil fuel, the usage of biofuel is environmental friendly. Biofuel is renewable source of energy as it is derived from crops, plants which can be harvested annually or on monthly basis (in case of Algae) and is relatively cheap too. Moreover, it is also evident that it contributes less towards green house emissions than fossil fuel in their production and use.
(b) Soil Contamination. Biofuel is based on biological molecule which is degradable as compared to fossil fuel. But this does not mean that biofuel is completely harmless. Biofuel once spilled over soil or water will cause contamination and can also harm living organisms but their impact will be much lesser than fossil fuel. The bacteria and other organisms that live naturally in the soil and water have the capability to break the biofuel molecules into energy sources and converting them into harmless byproducts. Thus leaving no effect on soil or
