The beginning of Chapter 3 lays out the three main factors that are associated with the relationship between exceptional parents and the classroom. These parents over the years have provided many beneficial changes because they would advocate for their children 's’ disabilities. Educators also seek parental involvement because studies show that a student’s grades tend to improve when the parents are actively involved with helping their student academically at home. The positive results that come from both statements above links to the judicial mandates that require parents to be informed and involved with their student’s education. The goal once again is to make sure these students have as much resources as possible to help them learn the curriculum.…

In the book The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates the author, Wes Moore, and his counter part began in somewhat similar environments, but as the story developed the two men began to lead entirely different lives. However, it was decisions made by the people that effected their environment that made the outcome of these two men’s lives so different from one another. Both of these men began their lives in what would be considered by most people unstable homes. Yet, both of these men ended with entirely different life stories and outcomes. I asked myself, how this could be possible?…

I love TED Talks. In the quiet morning before school, I found myself pursuing the Internet looking for a catchy title and a topic of which I wish to learn more. I am often provided with a creative idea, new perspective, or meaningful message for me to reflect upon and apply to my life in some small way. TED Talks are created by passion, intelligent individuals who have amazing messages to share with the world. While some topics have more of a direct correlation to my life than others, these speakers are incredibly knowledgeable and have worked diligently to hone their delivery skills in hopes of empowering others.…
Sequence of development is the order in which children develop such as a child will learn how to drink milk then begin eating blended food and finally be able to eat solid food. When children are developing it means they are developing every area, which is known as holistic development. (Pearson Schools and College, 2014) Rate of development means how fast or delayed the child may be at developing. Not all children will meet the stages of developments at the same time for a variety of reasons.…
Is the need to be a parent innate, or is it a social construct? Do we want to have children because it is in our brains, “pre-programmed” into our genetic code? Or do we want to have children because the desire has been cultivated and encouraged by our society, by our families, by our friends, values, beliefs and customs? While the desire to have children appears innate, we can attribute this to the sociocultural environment of institutional education, and these societal pressures to have children are clear when we study the population of childless families as well as the lack of scientific evidence to support the claim that childbearing is an innate urge. Dr. Veenhoven begins in his article, Is There an Innate Need for Children, by saying…
I told myself that I would never conform to the traditional way of thinking. I started to question everything that I was told. This is where I think I unlocked the full potential behind being a human, and that was to live life for yourself and no one else. I knew that if I was happy with myself and my way of thinking, I would never live another boring, standardized day in my…
“[T]here are people, not few in number, in whom, besides the schematically described cycle of life, there arises a sort of ‘sidetrack,’ which after some time may become the ‘main track.'” ~ Kazimierz Dabrowski How are some people driven toward personal growth and their self-chosen ideals, while others appear to stay where they lay? Dabrowski’s Theory of Positive Disintegration can shed some light on this question as it focuses on positive aspects of mental health and the essential role of emotional development and positive values in guiding growth towards a personality ideal. According to Dabrowski, we can think of a usual “cycle of life” being driven mainly by the instincts of self-preservation, sexuality and reproduction, material survival…
Throughout the observations I noticed there was a relatively even amount of information regarding the four developmental domains: physical, cognitive, social, and emotional. The first instance of physical development was in observation two when children were playing outside. Children were climbing the playground and running around in the play area. Children should be encouraged to run around while outside, if they aren’t then children are antsy in times when they need to be quiet and still.…
There are five major perspectives on child development: psychoanalytic, behavioral, cognitive, context, and evolutionary. Psychoanalytic perspective is the theory of personality developed by Freud that focuses on repression and unconscious forces and includes the concepts of infantile sexuality, resistance, transference, and division of the psyche into the Id, ego, and superego. Freud was also the first one who believed that all human beings were born with the desire towards hunger, sex and aggression. The Id is present at birth at represents unconscious desires, the ego is conscious and balances the needs of the id with societal demands, and the superego is the moral guide. Freud broke this development up into five stages.…
