Just as everyone comes to United States with hopes of receiving many opportunities and freedom, one of the main problems is that American Education is in crisis. Even though equal opportunity for education is something that people think they receive only few students receive it due to the lack of funding for certain schools provided by the government. As we spoke about education problems being one of the social problems in society, I have narrowed the topic down to provide more information about the “Achievement gap within students with different backgrounds and settings” in a community. One thing that every parent wants their kid to have no matter what is, a good education that can make those kids good human-beings in the future societies.

The mission of MAST is to provide a safe environment for students with different ethnic and cultural background so that they are not underestimated and they feel comfortable to achieve and participate which could build a strong student-mentor relationship as well as improve student performance overall in the future. As listed on the website of the Wicomico County Board of Education website, this program shares many goals such as “provide opportunities for extended learning, improve school attendance, provide homework assistance, increase science and math proficiency” (STARS: MAST program- Wicomico country public schools) and only desires the best for the …show more content…
“No nation has ever achieved 100 percent proficiency for all its students” (Ravitch 3) and “Black and Hispanic children have lower test scores than white and Asian children” (Ravitch 3) meaning that no student is perfectu due to race, color, ethnicity and any kind of background settings, therefore approach of education should be delivered to students equally. In the MAST program, as you walk in you would see students with different background settings but that doesn’t mean a student is dumb, it could be put in a better way as they might be underperforming due to certain circumstances but having mentors around to help such students was a great to not only help them with what they were struggling with but also to be there for them so that they have someone to talk to about anything they might be going
