Everyone has a Story Final
Walking seems like an easy task, but in Kathy’s situation, it’s the very opposite. As she walks through the grass to the car, she loses her balance and topples to the ground. To some it is funny, to others it is embarrassing, to Kathy it is an everyday possibility. This is just one example of what her challenge has limited her from doing. Kathy Shilt is 73 years old and was born on December 7, 1944. Her birthday marks the anniversary of Pearl Harbor, just three years later than that fateful event. She lives in West Unity, Ohio with her husband Roger and her two dogs, Max and Molly. Kathy has two children and is the proud grandmother of four grandchildren. In her earlier years, she worked as a secretary at Human Services. There, she typed 126 words a minute with three or fewer mistakes. None of her toes will bend the right way or at all. The surgery also shortened her toes, and now she only wears size six. Kathy even has trouble buying shoes that fit her. Not only have her feet shortened, but they have also grown wider. Kathy remembers a time when she couldn’t buy a shoe in girls’ sizes because they wouldn’t fit right. She went to the boy's department and ended up buying a pair with a Disney character design. This is only one limitation that Kathy faces. The surgery’s results have slowed Kathy down, and walking has become an everyday challenge. In her opinion, she doesn’t walk near enough for her health, but still tries to get as much exercise as she can. She still goes to the Y, but cannot jump rope anymore. Likewise, Kathy cannot wear high heels because her toes won’t ever bend the way they need to. The hardest challenge Kathy faces is going up and down stairs or a ladder because her toes cramp terribly. This challenge has changed Kathy’s everyday life, including her thoughts and feelings during

I believe that if Alison Bechdel’s memoir would have proceeded in a chronological order then reading it would not have had the same effect on the reader. Up until page 17, the reader can sense that something isn’t quite right with Bruce Bechdel. He could hardly be bothered to engage in a facile game of “airplane” (3) with his ten-year-old daughter. On page 6, Alison calls her father, “an alchemist of appearance, a savant of surface, a Daedalus of décor” because all of Bruce’s time and energy seem to center around perfecting his home. And on page 11, we get a brief glimpse of how quickly Bruce’s temper flares up and erupts as Alison yells out “don’t hit me” while the family is decorating the tree at Christmastime.…

Slavery is an evil that corrodes the slave 's life as well as the slaveholder 's mind and behavior. As demonstrated in the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave, the personality of the most pure masters and mistresses can have a negative 180 degree turn after experiencing slavery. Frederick Douglass argues this by presenting the examples of Sophia Auld (a white mistress) and Thomas Auld (a non-born slaver owner) who were influenced by slavery to become dishonest and immoral. The evil of slavery affected both men and women slaveholders.…

All of the women have inspired me with their recovery and learning a new way of life, as so am I. One of the ladies I live with Tiffany P. (for anonymity reasons can’t write her full name; she is in a 12 Step program as I am) is a Hawaii-born lady, straight from Honolulu, Hawaii. The reason why I’m writing about her and not the other five ladies, is because our story starts in Acton Rehab almost nine months ago. We both learned how to live clean, and trust me it’s not rainbows and unicorns, but, it’s a journey we both take still to this day together in our sober living. I look up to her and she guides me in the right direction because there is…
