I will be researching internship programs and their impact on students’ educational and professional development and their effectiveness to assist students obtain successful job placement. I will examine the current job market and evaluate what employers are looking for in new hires. I will look at the advantages and disadvantages of participating in internship programs from both the employers’ and interns’ standpoints. The cost of higher education makes it so important for students to be “hire able material”. I will detail why internship programs are so valuable and why it is necessary for students to apply academic knowledge to real work settings. At the college level, there must be practical exposure to learning so a student can make a stronger connection with academics, its purpose and results. I first started as an Education major and the impact of working with kids in the school made it easier to understand all the theories studied that previously were just words on paper. I understood the purpose when exposed to the situation. My studies began to make sense when I experienced it. This applies to all majors.
