In Sherman Alexie’s collection titled The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, many characters in this collection of stories intellectually benefit one another from telling their own stories. Native Americans can retain their history and cultural customs this way. For instance, Thomas Builds-the-Fire enjoys telling stories that are often surreal and have historical and natural contexts. His stories give his listeners observation of Native American history and how their experience had varied through the years. Victor also enjoys telling stories but his are more realistic and desolate.…

Narrative of the captivity of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson is considered as a seminal American work in the literary genre of captivity narratives, and this story happened during the Philips war from 1675 to 1678. The author of the book, Mary Rowlandson successfully described her spiritual journeys and redemption during she was captured by using symbolism and allusions. From my point of view, she had done a great job on literary elements. The first edition of the book comes out in 1682. Campbell decided that heroes come across many challenges that are put into stages and in those stages the hero grows closer to the reward at the end. I am definitely not a hero, but my journey of finding Christ and giving my life to him has absolutely made me into a better person overall. The rules, restrictions, prejudices and values within a society can have profound impacts on an individual’s sense of identity and place in the world. This is exemplified in Arundhati Roy's The God of Small Things and Celeste Ng's Everything I Never Told You, set respectively in the Indian village of Ayemenem and 1970s Ohio. Both texts provide similar provocative insights to identity through the exploration of context and the construction of characters whose personal values are in constant conflict with the expectations and social injustices that are imposed upon them. While both texts share a common theme of identity, their vastly different contexts have profound effects on the protagonists and their developments.…
