Differences Of The Abrahamic Religions

The beliefs of a certain religion is what makes it unique from the rest. There are three major religions that have a lot in common with each other as they all address the prophet Abraham in their holy book. These religions are called the Abrahamic religions and they are Christianity, Judaism and Islam. The Abrahamic faiths same the same point of view on many topics but they also have differing opinions about other topics. Some similarities between the three faiths include that they are all monotheistic, they also believe that God is merciful and they have all originated from the Middle East. One aspect is prayer. Every Sunday there is a service in church and this is one of the most important times when Christians pray. Prayer in Christianity is simply opening yourself up to God and hoping for God to direct you in the right direction. Prayer is not only limited to saying prayers, which is the most common form. It can also involve singing, reading, responding to art or even just listening (). Prayer in Judaism that a similar form as prayer in Christianity however there are some differences. For instance the holy day for Jewish people is Friday evening to Saturday evening. Also the Jewish place of worship is a synagogue not a church (). The most different of the three is Islam. Muslims are praised for their devotion to their religion especially through their prayer. Muslims pray in mosques and they also perform prayer five times a day, this prayer is called a salat. It is done facing Mecca and its purpose is to remember and communicate with Allah. Prayer also reminds the person of their submission to God and to thank him for everything they have (). Some similarities include their belief in only one God, the characterization of God as merciful and their place of origin. Some differences in their beliefs are prayer, symbols and afterlife. Each of these religions has a different set of beliefs, which sometimes overlap, but the devotion of the followers of each religion is what keeps the faith
