The ASHA ethics statement encompasses four different principles. The first principle states that individuals have a responsibility to help the people they treat professionally to the best of their ability and to treat all human and animal participants in research in a humane manner. This means that individuals should use every resource available and necessary to provide sound and quality service and that they need to have informed consent from those involved in research. Also, if an individual delegates tasks to anyone, the individuals performing these tasks must be appropriately certified, trained and supervised.
