Theories, Strategies And Responsibilities Of The School Leader

To reflect on the many theories, strategies, and planning processes discussed throughout this course, one section particularly stood out to me. The 21 responsibilities of the school leader presented in the Marzano book provided some insights into frequently occurring responsibilities of the school leader. As stated in the book, the “wide array of behaviors explains why it is so difficult to be an effective school leader. (Marzano , Waters, & McNulty, 2005, pg. 41). I particularly enjoyed this section because I’ve never thought of a principal’s responsibilities in this manner or how the responsibilities directly correlate to student achievement. The fact that these responsibilities are statistically matched to student achievement and strategically …show more content…
Even though I am familiar with some of the general practices, I found it extremely helpful to read this section. As the book states, “schools must design programs to meet the needs of students rather than forcing students into ‘preset’ programs that may or may not meet their needs. (Ubben, Hughes, & Norris, 2011, pg. 145)”
The principal is charged with the task of setting the tone for the education services (Ubben, Hughes, & Norris, 2011 pg. 145). It becomes critical for the principal to ensure that students deemed with an exceptionality are receiving adequate services and they are in full compliance. This means that principals must maintain an active role and remain involved in all special education cases.
As a principal, I hope to handle communication with parents in an effective manner. As the book discussed, there are a variety of responses that parents typically have when students are deemed with an exceptionality. My main goal would be to help and support parents as much as possible and to listen to their concerns and questions. Not all communication with parents is positive, but my focus would be to make the conversation and tone as positive as possible.

Throughout the course, paired with my own observations, I feel more confident that I understand what I have decided to do with much more clarity and with an unexpected gravity. The choice to become an administrator is not one that should be taken lightly because it has so many avenues of need, influence, and power. With these avenues comes responsibility and not just anyone could balance in a structured, respected way as some of the individuals I have been observing can. However, if I can continue to learn about and strive toward becoming this type of leader, I can make an impact in the world that I never thought possible just five years ago.…

There is no shortage of expectations for school leaders. Expectations from demanding politicians, concerned parents, well meaning teachers, motivated students, and interested community members must all be considered to successfully lead a school community. In this brief summary on my leadership style, I will expand on and assess my view of a transformational school leader as one who articulates a clear vision and mission, creates a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement, leads through democratic decision making, and demonstrates strong interpersonal skills.…

I am astounded by the different kinds of teacher leadership available throughout school districts. I have never really given it much thought, but a lot of the things we do on a daily basis can be considered teacher leadership. Teacher leaders have the capacity to improve teaching and learning, as well as the school environment and the profession” (Lowery-Moore, Latimer, & Villate, 2016, p. 1). If everyone works together toward a goal of helping each other within a school district, one might be surprised at the level of achievement and accomplishment taking place When I take a look at the current school district I work in, I am pretty proud of the teacher leadership opportunities that are available to us.…
