The historical influence in this story makes the characters and their actions more believable. The 1940-1950’s setting gives the text more of an ominous theme. The repeating UFO sightings in the 40’s and 50’s led to more suspicion and guesses of extraterrestrial life. The even though there were more guesses of extraterrestrial life, the people in the story acted if there was none. People blamed each other for causing the action, event or supporting the action or event. This did not influence the characters or their actions, but influenced the setting.
