Settings are an extremely important part of a story; they give the reader an idea of the time zone the story takes place in along with the places and circumstances. In That Summer the protagonist, Haven, develops tremendously as a character. One trait that has stayed with her throughout the novel and her ups and downs is her ambition. She wanted to dive into a working environment for experience, so she got a job at a children’s footwear store at the local mall. The store, Little Feet, was where she would go to escape her problems, never expecting her problems to follow her. During a regular work day, Haven disrespected a customer by throwing a shoe at them which she could never imagine doing in a million years. Haven’s disrespectful actions
