Fear Keeps You Alive
Fear is something everyone experiences at least one point in their life. Whether someone’s fear is of public speaking, spiders, or the dark, it is all natural. The shaking, sick to your stomach feeling is often regarded as uncomfortable to many people. However, fear can also prevent people from getting seriously injured. The general uncomfortable feeling could actually be beneficial. Fear is not always a harmful emotion because it makes people aware, it is a natural process, and it protects people from harm.

Many people get phobias and fears confused. Fears are more rational and are based on your survival. In on passage the author claims, “That initial rush of fear serves as our protector” (Foolish Fear). Fear is a survival tactic that can prevent people from getting seriously injured. When adrenaline is released into the body the “fight or flight” response is triggered. Later on, in the same passage the author talks about rational fears, he states that, “It is important to be afraid of an oncoming car” (Foolish Fear). Fear of an oncoming car can prevent someone from being struck and possibly killed. Evident dangers are good things to be afraid of and can benefit everyone. Within an article about the biochemical processes of the brain the author claims, “Our brain can also protect us from pain if under attack by releasing messengers called opioids, which numb pain” (Rodriguez). When the brain is processing fear, its main purpose is to protect the rest of the body. That is why the body reacts in certain ways, for survival. Natural opioids is just one example of how fear can keep people safe. Some may argue that fear can hold people back. This point is valid because some phobias do get a little out of hand. However, fear and phobias are not always the same thing. Phobias are more related to things like spiders, the dark, or clowns. None of these things would really harm someone. But fears of rattlesnakes and earthquakes are generally things people should be afraid
