The Thanksgiving story is usually taught in classrooms across America. It involves pilgrims, native americans, and a big feast. Most Americans observe this day of one of celebration. It is a gathering of friends, family, and great food such as mashed potatoes, stuffing, turkey, pumpkin pie and much more. Some people do not agree that this is a happy day. Some Native Americans believe that this day should be a time of mourning. There are many myths that have been told which require examination such as Terri Andrews point of view. By the time the dinner is ready I am usually so hungry. We say our prayers and then start passing around all the homemade traditional food. There is stuffing, mashed potatoes, turkey, cranberries, and more. After we finish most of the parents continue to watch the football game. Andrews said that the Native Americans did not help the colonists out of a “deep friendship” but rather it was part of their religion and culture to help those who …show more content…
When I think of Thanksgiving I think of the pilgrims and Native Americans and how they all had a big feast together to honor the thanks of everything that they have. Andrews has a very different point of view she informs us about the truths about Thanksgiving and how it all could be just a myth. She does not believe we should be celebrating this day. I believe that this should be a day we celebrate because we should all have a day which we thank for everything we have. So I don't think it should matter that much about the past along as now we celebrate it happily then why not stick to this

We shouldn't celebrate Columbus Day. Not just because he was a bad person. Yes, it is because spread so much disease, and I really don’t want to be celebrating someone who committed near genocide. But mainly, I don’t want to have a day where the Native Americans in our country feel hurt and betrayed as we celebrate the man who killed so many of their ancestors. The majority of people in America aren't Native American.…

The holiday of Columbus Day has kindled an irrefutable amount of controversy in recent years. One side of this bilateral argument asserts that Columbus opened up a global trade network while the other declares that his travels led to the decimation and abuse of the Native American population. One argues that Columbus Day should exist, while the other calls for its removal. However, this argument, along with the current Columbus Day, is overly simplified. To extract the true meaning of Columbus Day, Columbus himself must be withdrawn from the center of the holiday, and the holiday should recognize both the positive and negative results of October 12th, 1492.…

Anchored off the inhospitable coast of Massachusetts, a meager band of 88 Pilgrims, weak and weary from their lengthy voyage, stared at two terrible behemoths: in front of them was a vast, hostile land and behind them was the powerful, immense Atlantic Ocean which cut them off from the rest of the world. After they set foot on the rocky shores and watched the Mayflower sail past the edge of the endless horizon, one can only imagine the settlers’ unbearable sense of being all alone, separated from all civilization. What would compel anyone in their right mind to forsake modern society and seek out a desolate, unfamiliar land? The Pilgrims were Puritans known as “Separatists.”…

During the indigenous/Native American week, there were many relations and new things that I learned throughout the week. From chapter nine in the Wayne Au book I learned that everyone has a different way of growing up and we all need to embrace where we came from. What I learned the most about that week we all have to love ourselves and who we are. If it was not for our generation before us we would not where we are today and that already is such a huge success because other countries do not the life we are living today. Native Americans were know as “ different” because they their lifestyle was different growing up such as: hunting, the dancing culture and the tongues.…

While the colonization of what is now known as the United States was an exciting new endeavor to the European settlers, it wrecked havoc on the lives of the Native Americans. The new settlers, both knowingly and unknowingly harmed the Natives in numerous ways, which caused terrible consequences. Major problems for the Native Americans caused by the settlers were the spreading of diseases, economic ruin, and unrightful taking of land. When the European settlers arrived in North America, they brought all kinds of goods, but they also brought things they were not aware of. Having lived on an entirely separate continent, the European settlers were often subject to different diseases than the ones native to North America.…
