There are many different holidays for different countries and religions, but thanksgiving is at the top of my list for favorite holidays. It’s one day of the year that can be filled with nothing but thanks for all that I have, and I can share it with the people I care about most. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because my mom cooks delicious food, my family comes from all over for Thanksgiving dinner, and every year, when dinner is done, I get to go Black Friday shopping with my best friend.
One of the reasons why Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday is because I get to see all of my beautiful family. The long Thanksgiving weekend makes it easier for family to come from out of town to visit and enjoy dinner together. Whether

Waking up to the smell of Thanksgiving dinner as it cooks, is like being a little kid waking up on Christmas morning and finding presents under the tree. As I go downstairs and see my mom preparing the food for our Thanksgiving dinner, a smile spreads across my face. Just the sight of my mom washing the greens, and pouring cake batter into the pan, makes my stomach growl in anticipation. She makes a majority of the food for our Thanksgiving dinner, including the greens, the turkey, and her amazing mac and cheese. However, my brothers and sisters do their part too, by bringing the stuffing and cakes that everyone loves. With so much food to eat on Thanksgiving, I pretty much starve myself throughout the day, that way I can eat as much as possible during dinner that night. My family is very strict on tradition for Thanksgiving dinner. When the food is finished cooking and the table is set, everyone is called to the dining room. After everyone is seated, a prayer is said, and as a family we eat the delicious food in front of us. To me, the best thing about thanksgiving dinner is all the leftovers. Between the food my mom cooked, and the food everybody else brought, there's still enough food to have Thanksgiving leftovers until the next week. Even after everyone is stuffed with food, and has a to-go plate piled high, but the leftovers never taste as good as they do Thanksgiving

Every year on Thanksgiving break I have gone to my grandparents house to stay for the week. For me this is important because my grandparents live a good ways away and I barely get to see them. This became a tradition when I moved away from where they live because that's when our other traditions ended like on wednesdays we used to meet somewhere and eat dinner but we can’t do that any more so we thought that Thanksgiving break is a good time to go see them because we have off school and they can get off work. The whole time we are up there we laugh cook and have fun together.…

In America they would gather to celebrate Thanksgiving and they will do so at the dinner table. The meal, with roots in the ancient traditions of harvest festivals and in the religious fervor of the Puritans who settled here, has grown into a secular feast of abundance. Whether taking place in Duluth, Minnesota or at the Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan, the American tradition is to roast a turkey and eat it along with a slew of side dishes, all in the company of family and friends. So here’s the thing: while it is an iconic food, no one would argue that a roast turkey is the American national dish – turkey on multigrain for lunch aside. Plopping a turkey on an overladen table is reserved almost solely for this day.…
