It was Thanksgiving morning and heading to downtown Detroit. It wasn’t my typical Thursday morning with the sun glaring through the glass beating down on my face. I was with my best friend, Josh, and his family. I remember his mom saying “Helping those less fortunate is more rewarding than you think guys.” Didn’t think feeding homeless a Thanksgiving dinner was fun, I was ignorant tot the idea of it, but I didn’t know going to help less fortunate would open up a perspective on life I did not know about.…

While my parents traveled to and from work everyday, there were a couple of songs they may have heard quite often due to their popularity. If they happened to be listening to the radio when I was born, they more than likely heard the number one song “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith (“Birthday No #1.”), which won the MTV Movie Award for Best Song from a Movie (“Aerosmith Awards.”). Diane Warren, the songwriter, became nominated for an Oscar for the Best Music from an Original Song, won the ASCAP Award for Most Performed Songs from Motion Pictures, and was even nominated for the Grammy Best Song written Specifically for Motion Picture or for Television (“Diane Warren Awards.”). Other songs they may have heard could have been “Candle in the Wind” by Elton John or even “Truly Madly Deeply” by Savage Garden ("90s Hits – Billboard #1s.”). Other than listening to songs, my parents often found themselves sitting on a comfortable couch watching a hit TV show.…

Last November, a week before Thanksgiving, I was listening to the morning radio talk show The Woody Show and the hosts were talking about how excited they were for the Thanksgiving feast. They all went around and shared what was their perfect meal for that day. It ranged from fried turkey, to stuffing, cornbread, green bean casserole, and towards the end the hosts argued about cranberry sauce. However, they all agreed that pumpkin pie was essential to the perfect meal. I found it very interesting that while they argued about the way the meal was executed, they all agreed on the basic components to the meal-I didn’t.…
