Thanksgiving In My Family

Improved Essays
In my family, we look forward to thanksgiving, both my parents cook the meal while my siblings and I set the table. However, this year is different, a couple of weeks ago the double oven in my house broke. Most of our meals require an oven, my mother and older siblings heavily rely on the double oven throughout the years for cooking and baking. When the double oven broke, I was upset since theses ovens are less than two years old and I thought that my parents couldn’t make my favorite stuffing. A couple years ago my parents started trying new recipes from Foodnetwork or any other cooking channel. For many years my parents would make the same thing over and over again, or buy ready made food (if you can imagine the food lost it’s touch over a while). …show more content…
The stuffing that my dad makes looks more appetizing/appealing and definitely taste better. When my parents told my older siblings that there's a chance we're not having our usual Thanksgiving both got really upset. I think one of the most important/special things about Thanksgiving is how families can come together and make food. Making food is something special in my family, both my parents enjoy creating food the whole family like, it's a unique type of bonding. I lost all hope that we could have the chance to have our usual Thanksgiving meal until last weekend. On Saturday a service repair company called and said that they can visit my house on Wednesday and get it

Every year on Thanksgiving break I have gone to my grandparents house to stay for the week. For me this is important because my grandparents live a good ways away and I barely get to see them. This became a tradition when I moved away from where they live because that's when our other traditions ended like on wednesdays we used to meet somewhere and eat dinner but we can’t do that any more so we thought that Thanksgiving break is a good time to go see them because we have off school and they can get off work. The whole time we are up there we laugh cook and have fun together.…

When I was young, it was always a competition to be my grandma’s favorite. There were fifteen grandchildren in the family, and being her favorite meant we were given numerous privileges. The privileges consisted of anything from being the one who gets the most money on Christmas, getting to choose the family dinner on every Friday night, or best of all we were allowed to sit next to her at church on Sunday. We were the racecar drivers in a NASCAR race, swerving, causing the cars to smash into the walls to prevent them from the checkered flag. At age four, I was in the middle of the pack, and I knew I had to find something that none of my fellow competitors knew.…

In America they would gather to celebrate Thanksgiving and they will do so at the dinner table. The meal, with roots in the ancient traditions of harvest festivals and in the religious fervor of the Puritans who settled here, has grown into a secular feast of abundance. Whether taking place in Duluth, Minnesota or at the Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan, the American tradition is to roast a turkey and eat it along with a slew of side dishes, all in the company of family and friends. So here’s the thing: while it is an iconic food, no one would argue that a roast turkey is the American national dish – turkey on multigrain for lunch aside. Plopping a turkey on an overladen table is reserved almost solely for this day.…

Last November, a week before Thanksgiving, I was listening to the morning radio talk show The Woody Show and the hosts were talking about how excited they were for the Thanksgiving feast. They all went around and shared what was their perfect meal for that day. It ranged from fried turkey, to stuffing, cornbread, green bean casserole, and towards the end the hosts argued about cranberry sauce. However, they all agreed that pumpkin pie was essential to the perfect meal. I found it very interesting that while they argued about the way the meal was executed, they all agreed on the basic components to the meal-I didn’t.…
