Thanksgiving Feast Essay

Decent Essays
Our annual Thanksgiving Feast was replete with delicious food and volunteers galore. Over 300 homeless guests dined on traditional holiday fare thanks to the generous donors who made this festive banquet possible. Our volunteers gave each person their individual attention and genuine hospitality. We are extremely grateful for their compassionate service to our guests who suffer from loneliness during the holiday season.

This year’s prelude to the event was uniquely different with health services offered prior to the meal. We hosted a collaborative effort named Project Healthy Neighbors to provide tuberculosis tests, flu shots, HIV and hepatitis C screenings to promote the health of our community members in greatest need.

What, to the homeless man, is Thanksgiving? I answer: a holiday that reminds him, more than any other hungry day in the year, the gluttony and selfishness to which he is the constant prey. To him, your feasts are ridiculous; your thankful humility, just empty words; your giving attitude, bitterly ironic; your television specials, a mockery of his suffering; your holiday spirit, vanishing in an instant; your clamoring for generosity and kindness, painful to his ears; your pumpkins and autumn leaves, your peace and togetherness, with all the Macy’s Parades and cranberry sauce, are, to him mere frivolity, excess, wastefulness, greed, and close-fisted behavior- a tablecloth thrown over miserly deeds which would shock a room full of businessmen.…

Should there be a law that requires restaurants and fast food places to post nutritional information, including calories, fat calories, and sodium, on their menus? Many Americans eat inn restaurants and consume foods that aren’t healthy. As a result of this, these Americans may eventually have health problems. Without a doubt, restaurants and fast food places should post nutritional information. This is because the labeling will make awareness to people of the food whether it is healthy or not.…

Last November, a week before Thanksgiving, I was listening to the morning radio talk show The Woody Show and the hosts were talking about how excited they were for the Thanksgiving feast. They all went around and shared what was their perfect meal for that day. It ranged from fried turkey, to stuffing, cornbread, green bean casserole, and towards the end the hosts argued about cranberry sauce. However, they all agreed that pumpkin pie was essential to the perfect meal. I found it very interesting that while they argued about the way the meal was executed, they all agreed on the basic components to the meal-I didn’t.…

Panama is a very surprising country, including for the food. Indeed, because of the diversity of cultures, Panamanian cooking mixes elements which come from different countries. For example, you can feel the American influence through the local cheesecake, or the Argentinian and Colombian influence when you have what they call “empanadas” or the Peruvian influence through what became one of the most famous meals of Central America, the “ceviche”. It’s almost impossible to be disappointed when you go to the restaurant or even when you buy something in an old, poor and little take away. Moreover, you can eat like an ogre for only 3 dollars.…

Thanksgiving dinner in my family is a big deal all our family and friends gather around to celebrate. There is always plenty of food, drinks, music and laughter. The anticipation for Thanksgiving break is over the top. The thought of home cooked meals, family, and no professors talking a student 's ear off for a week are heavenly. Of course all the classic thanksgiving things happen but there are also psychological things that go on. (Darn that psychology sneaking its way into everything, it obviously never goes on break.) Although psychology is used every minute of every day i 'm only going to talk about 5 concepts, persuasion, cognition, emotion, personality, and the self.…
