“He heard the creaking of the bolt as it came slowly back, and at the same moment he found the monkey’s paw, and frantically breathed his third and last wish” (Jacobs 277). And in that moment, the room suddenly became tranquil. It was as if none of the pandemonium - happening less than a second ago - had ever transpired. I have spoken with Chance about your plans for Thanksgiving. He informed me that you are going to Kansas City for a day or two this coming weekend and then will be home next week for the Thanksgiving Holiday. I have also reviewed our most recent parenting plan and agreement as they pertain to holidays and normal visitation schedule. I find no reference therein that allows you to arbitrarily force me to forfeit my time with Chance without my prior approval and prior or subsequent remuneration. I do not agree with you taking my weekend prior to the holiday just because “Thanksgiving break is one full week”.…

It really started on the day of the Pumpkin Festival; the day Perry Fiddler first came to my attention. It would have been an uneventful contest with Marcy, Wilber, and I, Otis Burrow, doing the judging honors for the annual festival. We had all bases covered; Marcy Winks was president of the Blushing Blooms garden club, Wilber Shuttle the State-U agricultural expert, and I, of course, owner of the Burrow Hardware and Feed. Everything was under control, that is until Wilber showed up with his nephew, Perry. “Couldn’t get out of it,” Wilber explained, tossing his briefcase under the table and shrugging his shoulders.…
