Thanksgiving Day Experience

The event that I visited over Thanksgiving break was the Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Day game. It was my first time going and I was extremely excited to participate in such a big event. The Thanksgiving Day game in Detroit is different than the other football games that are played at Ford Field. There is a different amount of emotion from the fans and the game creates a larger spectacle than usual. The fans create an atmosphere that is louder and more vibrant because it is a tradition for many fans. I was excited to be a part of a unique experience.

Each person wanted to acquire something that helps them capture the memory of the Thanksgiving Day game. There were also many restaurants and food areas to allow people to stay in the stadium longer and create a longer trip out of the day. Many corporate companies also created various lounges inside Ford Field to allow visitors to have an area to relax and be comfortable in non-stadium seats. The football game itself brings families together through tradition and a positive bonding experience for everyone. Some fans of the visiting team may also use the event as a quick trip away from their normal environment to go visit friends, family or to cheer for their favorite team. Ford Field contains a variety of amenities and facilities that are inclusive of all visitors who attend the Thanksgiving Day game.

The influx of people brings a positive impact on the city’s economy and local businesses. The money generated from the increased amount of people can help to rebuild and restore various parts of Detroit that are underdeveloped. The money could go towards rebuilding houses and repaving streets to make Detroit a more lively and prosperous area for all the citizens. A large number of visitors also provides job opportunities for the people who are hired for the influx of visitors. Through the various job opportunities, it could provide the workers’ families with a stronger income. The stronger income would allow the families to spend more money and continue to grow the city’s economy. However, some residents do not appreciate the influx of people. The large amounts of visitors create traffic and safety concerns for the surrounding area. The area then has a larger risk of an unforeseen crisis. The visitors and the local residents then become endangered. A large amount of traffic is also a negative environmental impact. The increased car emissions damage the atmosphere that is directly above the city of Detroit. The weakened atmosphere could generate health concerns for the local residents long after the visitors leave. The visitors also generate large amounts of trash that could end up in the Detroit River and pollute the water.

In the article “At Ole Miss, the Tailgaters Never Lose” by William L. Hamilton, readers learn about the famous football-weekend parties at the Grove on the University of Mississippi. The article uses spatial organization because the writer focuses on the location and tailgating happening at one place. Hamilton also uses topical organization, moving from the past to present in different parts of the article. This helped the reader to understand more about the past of Ole Miss and how things became the way they are today. Kezar Stadium was the 49ers first home and where they played for the franchise's first 24-years. Viewed outside the prism of excitement, the stadium was an archaic and tattered one, in striking contrast to the stadiums they play in today. Kezar was designed by Willis Polk & Company and built in 1925 for $300,000. It was a place where the cold bite of the Pacific Ocean would cut right through you, chilling you to the bones.…

After a dreadful attendance of only 21,000 for last year's spring game, Coach Jim McElwain and crew tried something different this year to boost attendance by hosting the game on a Friday night for the first time in history, and it paid off. As kickoff approached, University Ave was flooded with pedestrians in orange and blue apparel. Football was in the air, at least for a night, but that was good enough to bring together 46,000 fans and over 40 recruits into The Swamp to watch the Gators. Will Norris, a UF Student and a member of Phi Delta Theta, acknowledged he’s noticed a difference of the atmosphere on campus this year with the game being played on a Friday night, “Students are actually looking forward this year's game with Florida coming off their first SEC title since Tebow, plus, they don’t have to sit through a scorching noon game, and we get a first look at…

From what I can remember, football has become a Sunday ritual in my family since I was a kid. Growing up in the North East, we lived a couple hours from Shea Stadium in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, New York. Being the playing ground for the New York Jets 1964 to 1983, now the New York Jets play at MetLife Stadium, in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Living so closed to the stadium and having family members like my Dad, Uncles, and Grandfather take the train or a boat over to watch Joe Namath play was an experience I wish I could have been a part of. Football has become so popular in America, that they have a day dedicated to watching your favorite team play their hardest vs one of the other thirty-one teams in the league.…
