On of the themes found in MTS and TYM is poverty. Suffering from poverty in TYM, Roger the little boy who tries to steal Mrs. Jones pocketbook, wanted to buy blue suede shoes. The boy, poor and wanting blue suede shoes, wanted money to buy them. In MTS Hughes also showed poverty. He worked very hard to reach where he was. In the story Mrs. Jones would work very late and come back home, even later because she would walk to her house in a pitch black night.In the poem the line stated was, “And places with no carpet on the floor.” Meaning that he could of lived in the streets, like on concrete. The sophisticated poet, hardworking and educated, had to work very hard to get where he is now. Even being an African american person, he succeeded to become a poet.
