In Langston Hughes, “Let America Be America Again,” the speaker says that he longs for the America that everyone dreamt. “The Land of the Free,” “The Home of the Brave,” and “the Melting Pot” are all names that America has gained over the years. America endured many hardships including racism, slavery, and wars. In this poem, Hughes specified the different people who lived and worked in America’s society, such as the farmers, the pioneers, the Negro slaves, the immigrants, and the opportunist whom all came to America seeking hope and happiness, but what they received was far different. As Langston Hughes sat down to write: Let America be America again. Let it be the dream it used to be. Let it be the pioneer on the plain Seeking a home where he himself is free. (“Let America...” 1-4) he was not inspired, as he often was, by a random thought that popped to his head, nor was he writing about something he felt at the moment. He was writing about something that he had felt for most of his life.…

“The home of the free and the brave every heart beats true where there's never a boast or brag” is from the song “Grand Ol’ Flag.” Walt Whitman would agree with this song because his poem “I Hear America Singing” give a positive look on America just like the song refers to America and how everyone is free. However Langston Hughes's poem was disagreeing with Witman, but Hughes's describes in his poem how much he wants freedom in America. Whitman wrote his poem in the mid 1800’s although Hughes wrote his poem in the mid 1900’s this fact is important, because it changes the people's perspective. Slavery or inequality did not become a real huge problem until the 1900’s.…

Langston Hughes in his poem I, Too, expounded on the disappointments of the black man in his poetry. He never surrendered in light of the fact that he imagined an America in which black and white men would eat at the same table and be viewed as equal Americans. The setting of the poem is "all over the place America" that trusted that black men were not Americans or equal to the white men as human creatures. The poem Let America be America Again is a plead or argument for the return to the original principles of freedom that our country has seemingly forgotten. The author sees America as broken and its people have lost sight of the ultimate goal of freedom and happiness. Examining the multiple types of oppressed Americans, the poem begs the idea that America has lost its way but can return to its former glory with the help of its people. A memorable phrase, or portion, of the poem that stood out to me was the following questions.…
