The google definition of a mean person is someone who wants to see others fail.. But as for Mts. Jones, in the short story of “ Thank You M’am” by Langston Hughes, when she almost got robbed of her purse by a young boy named Rodger. She didn't take him the police, to get him in trouble and put in jail, instead she took him into her own home and took care of him and fed him like he was her own son. Many people might think Mrs. Jones is the opposite of caring for how she treated him in the beginning, but I think caring, and generous, and considerate is the best way to describe her as. So, not like any other person she fed him food to eat and warm cocoa to drink. Mrs. Jones went out of her way to help this boy who not too long ago, tried to steal her purse. Generosity is a rare but loved thing in the world today. Thankfully, there's people like Mrs.Jones who are naturally generous. The whole reason Rodger tried stealing her purse was to buy these suede shoes, and he didn't have enough money, so when she took him home with her and took care of him, she gave him money to buy himself those blue suede shoes he wanted. She also says, “Well, you didn’t have to snatch my pocketbook to get some suede shoes,” “You could of asked me.” she would even give a total stranger who she didn't know money to buy shoes, If that's not the definition of generosity, than I don't know what is. In closing, when people help strangers they don't know, it's an act of kindness, but when they take them into their home and take care of them that shows a true kindhearted person. Growing up I was told, the best people aren't the people that do good when everyone is watching and expects them to, it's the people who do it when no one thinks they will, Mrs.Jones didn’t bring Rodger home because she didn't want to look bad in public, she did it out the kindness of her

When Mrs. Sommers makes way to the dressing room and puts them on she is not thinking about her responsibilities, she is acting on her own personal desires. Chopin writing demonstrates this, “She was not going through any acute mental process or reasoning with herself, nor was she striving to explain to her satisfaction the motive of her action. She was not thinking at all. She seemed for the time to be taking a rest from that laborious and fatiguing function and to have abandoned herself to some mechanical impulse that directed her actions and freed her of responsibility.” She continues on to purchase a pair of boots that she desires and she does not care if they cost her a little more than expected.…

Giving to others while you don’t have much to give, can be a difficult thing to do.
