Transitioning from a fully stocked home kitchen of lamb chops and mashed potatoes to a college dorm room with easy mac and stale bread was not an easy adjustment for me. The dining hall at CCU is subpar at best so a chance to go out to eat is truly a blessing. My family came to visit and told me I could pick anywhere to go for dinner. After about an hour of rummaging through yelp reviews I finally decided on The Original Benjamins Calabash Seafood buffet in Myrtle Beach, because let's be honest, who doesn't love a good buffet. I decided to base my overall opinion of the restaurant on ambiance, taste, service, and how satisfied I was when i left.

Leidner wrote a book, Fast Food Fast Talk: Service work and the routinization of everyday life, in which she worked in and observed working life in a McDonalds and compared it to an insurance company. Her book focused on the routinization of service jobs and its effect on the people working, the customers consuming the product, and the effect it has on the company. This paper focuses on a McDonalds in the Southside of Jacksonville, FL and how it compares to the observations made in Leidner’s book. Going into this project, there were not many expectations made about what to expect in the McDonalds observed. The following are the expectations that were kept in mind while the field observations, discussed later in this paper, were conducted.…

My husband, our four children, and I visited the El Rodeo in Mooresville, Indiana on April 15, 2017. We arrived around one in the afternoon and were surprised to find that the customers were few and far between. We were seated immediately, and our server, Juan, was at our table within seconds. He brought with him three baskets of chips and three bowls of salsa. Our food arrived at our table about ten minutes after we ordered.…

A hybrid is a mixture of elements that create something new and different. A hybridity is a mixture of separate races or cultures that when combined turn into a mixed race and/or culture that has aspects of both seen throughout. Hybridity was very common during the colonial age when European explorers and settlers mixed with the natives found in areas that they had colonized. This was prevalent in New Spain in the generations following the conquest of the Indians of Peru as seen through both the creation of the Mestizo and the combination of European and Indian cultures. Examples of changes in the culture are those such as clothes, language, writing, and most importantly religion.…

Have you seen the word ‘woot’ used by someone online to indicate that they are excited about something? I have, but I have also seen ‘woot’ used as text language, particularly as an acronym for “waste of our time”. The Concise Oxford Dictionary, however, has recently included ‘woot’, defining it as an exclamation of triumph or success (“‘Retweet’ and ‘woot’ Make Oxford Dictionary Debut”, 2011). The word ‘woot’ has been used to express enthusiasm, victory, desire, and irritation in music, television, games, online, and as acronyms. The meaning is not the same for all.…

Most people go to the mall to shop, but when I went I was also there to take note of all the sexual images and messages I saw and heard. As soon as I walked in the the male there was both female and male mannequins displacing underwear, some more sexual then others but both sending the same message. In the mall I saw plenty of sensual imagery from sexual clothing, candles, sex toys, pictures of models both male and female, advertisements that displayed sexual imagery, and naked pictures of women as well on the clothing of some individuals. Also over the period of about 2 hours that I was in the mall I witnessed male interactions with females and female interactions with males. Walking around like a creep I heard plenty of catcalls form both…

First of all, I would like to extend my gratitude to our professor Chris McEvoy for presenting us with the opportunity to conduct an interview with a startup, as it was a mind changing event for me. For our interview, the startup that agreed to work with us was Socio: A next level event experience. The main model of this startup is to make an event a fun experience and cut down the needs of carrying business cards. They developed an android, iOS app that helps user to share information with another user, just by shaking their phone when in close proximity, and it generates an accept request on each users phone, which when accepted shares all the information that the user has entered in their socio profile, which ranges from; cell phone number, multiple email ids, twitter account, Facebook account, etc. We were grateful to have Yarkin Sakucoglu (CEO and co-founder) and Andrew Price (Director of Sales), and we were able to understand their philosophy of startup, and what it takes to lead a startup from zero to a point where they are right now.…

Eric Schlosser, the author of Fast Food Nation, used techniques of persuasion through ethos, pathos, and logos and they help him become credible when it comes to uncovering the dark sides of the fast food industry. Schlosser’s audience are the people who eat at fast food establishments and who buy their products without knowing what it takes to serve it. By analyzing the book we can see how the author’s use of rhetoric analysis supports his argument. It not only benefited his purpose, but it also helped the reader understand it and take a stance on his argument. Pathos is an appeal to emotion and is a way of convincing an audience of an argument by creating an emotional response.…

Although many of Billy Collins’ short poems feature a first-person perspective, readers should not necessarily assume that the voice belongs to the poet himself. Indeed, at times, Collins speaks in the voice of a distinct character whose experiences and thoughts reveal a specific situation and crisis. In “The Waitress,” for example, the speaker’s observations indicate that he dines out often enough to recognize the behaviours common to restaurant servers, but the detail of his description suggests that observing the waitress on this occasion has become a personally meaningful activity. The speaker’s detailed observation of his apparently indifferent waitress gives way to a romantic fantasy that reveals him to be a lonely man contemplating…

I consider it absolutely intriguing how the dictionary is constantly changing and that the words that are added to it can be old words that might have new definitions or they’ can be new words that are used in everyday life. Like in everyday situations like texting and emailing for example. It is certainly entertaining to learn about how the dictionary works, and to recognize that there is a person who approves the words that are put into the dictionary, and it makes me think about what their thinking process is behind concluding what words should be in the dictionary and how they should be defined. I also liked that the podcast emphasized the fact that the English language is continuously growing and changing based on the societal views that are present at that moment. Words are also based on the youth and the young adults that are the future of our word and the words that are now more commonly used reflect the way these young adults speak.…

People usually go to a restaurant not only for the convenience; the most important element is that the restaurant has delicious food, which they cannot make it at home; also other restaurant cannot make that taste. I mean it should be has some more special than other restaurant, such as, the service very well or the special environment as so on. For me, the most elements adjust a restaurant it should be they pick up the fresh ingredients used in the food. That is the crucial for customers; they don’t want to send money payment for a bad or worse food.…
