Science fiction is a genre, which deals with unfamiliar concepts most that are scientific theories such as time travel, or human cloning. It is out of convenience that most science fiction novels are set in the future, since this allows the author to take a light notice into realist convections, which naturally would slow down the exploration of the chosen idea. But they are cases that science fiction is not always about advanced technology and space exploration but it explores concepts such as human qualities, psychology and sociology.
Blade Runner by Ridley Scott is one of them (adaptation from Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Phillip K. Dick) it uses its own terminology such as referring to the clones as ‘Replicants’, a word chosen for its relation to cell replication. The terminology is introduced to us by use of a narrative device commonly found in noir and science fiction films, sometimes by the form of the text or narration, either early, during, or at the end of the film. Eyes are repeatedly spotlighted during the film and while the concept is one of an obvious subject to spot, it is one of the most important and yet effective ones. An example would be the eye scanner called Voight-Kampff which in this case is a test method used by blade runners (a special police force) to identify a replicant as this test consists of observing the eye of a subject most specifically the iris for an empathetic response while being questioned is designed to make humans react. From the beginning of the film when this is first used, we are given the idea that our eyes are what make us human as well as exploring themes as if memories makes us who we are and the themes of social hierarchy and social decay some which are revealed subtle through the use of visuals and
