Did you know that on an average it takes about four point six seconds to read or send a text while behind the wheel? Do you think that it is okay to text and drive? The National Safety Council in 2011, have found out that at least twenty-three percent of all traffic accidents or about 1.3 million has to involved someone being on their cellular device.(Netzley, Patricia D.). It also has showed that teens at the ages of sixteen and nineteen are responsible for over twenty percent of the fatal car crashes in the United States. (Netzley, Patricia D.). When driving and using your cells phones can cause so many accidents, by physical and mental distraction. There are laws made to stop people from using cellphones while driving. The police can stop you if you are on your phone whether you are young and old. Some of the punishments can lead to fines, which also may grow with repeated offenses. This can also be added unto the record in the point system. In some states this serious to them, like it should be to everyone else and also repeated offenders can face major jail time. A few people also make rules for thier self while they are about to get ready to drive. A young man named Bryan Delaney in Ithaca, New York said that he has rules for the car to keep him safe while driving. He choices the music he would listen and turns off his phones so that it doesn’t be a distraction. (Collins, Lois M., and Marjorie Cortez.). In the state of Texas there is a law that teens that are trying to get license must have their permit for six months, they will not be able to drive after midnight, and also must have an adult with them anytime they drive. If they so happened to get pulled over by a police office there is a possibility that they will not be able to drive for about two to three months, also may be fined.
