Texting Through Text Analysis

Decent Essays
I completely agree with you Marisa. I have been able to enjoy my time away from my phone especially after I moved to Drexel. It was a hassle to hang out with people all the time, so texting was a way to connect with them no matter how far away they were from me. I used to just text all my friends all day and we would have small talks that did not really have any real content. People are very informal through texts. I wish people would take their time to write longer text messages, so I would feel a bit more of a connection with them when we talk. Since I moved to Drexel, I have been surrounded by so many people that I barely touch my phone every day. It feels nicer to have people to accompany you in real life instead of through text.

You can present yourself as you wish to be 'seen '" (388). Although I do concede that if used improperly, texting can become a means of only surface communication-communication that involves no deeper meaning or, as Turkle puts it, the "staccato texts" (387) . If texting is used to meet people, to build relationships, and further them off the screen, it can become a practical tool. Wortham supports my argument that technology is beneficial if used as a tool by saying it can help "people who want to build their relationships through the screen as well as beyond it" (397). Texting and new "matching-apps," such as Tinder and Bumble, provide a means of potentially fostering new relationships with people you may otherwise never have known.…

Txtn or texting Michaela Cullington’s article entitled “Does Texting Affect Writing” presents an argument against the way we write and the way we text. The article argues that as often as we text and the way we text changes the way we write. The position that the writer takes on in this issue is exaggerating the effects that texting has on our life by stating in the beginning of his article, “its taking over our lives” (Cullington, 791). The thesis states “it has become a concern of doctors, parents, and teaches alike.…

Have you seen the word ‘woot’ used by someone online to indicate that they are excited about something? I have, but I have also seen ‘woot’ used as text language, particularly as an acronym for “waste of our time”. The Concise Oxford Dictionary, however, has recently included ‘woot’, defining it as an exclamation of triumph or success (“‘Retweet’ and ‘woot’ Make Oxford Dictionary Debut”, 2011). The word ‘woot’ has been used to express enthusiasm, victory, desire, and irritation in music, television, games, online, and as acronyms. The meaning is not the same for all.…

In an era where it is as easy as the push of a button to talk to or even have a face to face conversation with someone, why is it that the majority of people would prefer to text? Society has traded relationships for convenience at the expense of health. This theme is quite apparent through the lens of two works. Both The Public Image by Muriel Spark and “Is Facebook Making Us Lonely?” by Stephen Marche discuss how a person is affected when they become isolated.…

My friends and I have a group chat that we use just about everyday. Texting is a great way for us to stay connected because we all have different schedules and it allows us to send random thoughts or questions we have throughout the day and we can respond when we get the chance. It is also a really great way to stay connected with my family because I can text my parents if something happens during the day or something I want to tell them and may forget to later and they can respond when they get out of work or have a second. It is also a good way for people to contact me if it is not an…

My graphic text tells the story of my first year at camp. It discusses how nervous I was to go to camp but how at the end my camp session, it was one of the best things I had ever done. The theme of my graphic text is to not overthink things because they will always turn out well. In my graphic text, I communicated my theme using composition, proportion, line and contrast. I also communicated my theme using the sizing of my panels and the balloons.…

Disconnected In the reading Growing Up Tethered by Sherry Turkle she describes her experience of talking to high school students about being more connected to a cellphone than the world around them. I completely agree cellphones and other devices that keep us connected via web, text or call causes us to lose necessary physical interactions with other people. So much attention can be drawn from cellphones without having to leave the house, some people have friends all over the country that they may have never met. Cellphones give a sense of popularity being able to talk to people and express feelings without being face to face gives some people more confidence.…

I have made this a habit of my own. It is so much easier just to email or text someone instead of having to face them in person. Horvat said, “We should not serve technology and allow our gadgets to control our lives, social skills or decisions. When this happens, it can endanger the proper development of the personality and hamper the social relationships needed for life together in society.” This couldn 't be any more true.…

Old, young or a teen texting is something that has changed the world and it hasn’t just changed things like reading and write but texting can affect people in a more personal way. Introverted teens like myself found that texting someone is emotionally easier. When texting someone it’s easier to get to the point of things verse talking to someone outside of the phone is harder for you have to small talk or talk to other people making it harder to just talk to a friend. Being an introvert I see this. I’m very socially awkward but when I text a friend or not in a large group of people I find it easier to be myself and it’s less stressful to text for I can go over what I said and not say the wrong thing, which is something I have a habit of.…

It causes us to be reluctant towards real communication or having a meaningful conversation with people that we encounter every day. I think it is safe to say that over the years texting has become more famous through the whole world as people of all races and gender now tend rely on it rather than met up. About 80% of humans cannot live without our cellphones and most of us feel like we cannot function without it. We prefer to text than met face to face. As a result, we lack social skills.…

The well majority of my childhood, I grew up without the convenience of texting. When I wanted to play with my friends I physically had to go outside, ride my bike, ring their doorbell, and ask their parents permission to play. Compared to now it definitely seems more tedious. However, it has vastly helped me create stronger bonds not only with my friends but extended to the people around them.…
