Texting, the type of writing that even your 3 year old brother can probably do now! Texting has grown and changed over the years. For example, the way people text can be formal or informal. Just like when you write a paper, when you use slang and words you would use around friends would be considered informal, but when writing a letter to a professor you would use more appropriate words. The past week I have been studying the way freshman text among the campus I attend. Based on the many years of slang terms in college, my research reveals that texting formal rather than informal is more common among the freshman students at The University of Memphis. My findings were shocking, but not to me. My research started when I surveyed ten freshman females in my residence hall, and asked them how they text on the daily. What words were common? Did it change based on the person they were texting? These questions would help me figure out what was common around campus. Once I got my results I was not shocked to find that 8 out of 10 girls used a formal style of texting. This proved my hypothesis was right, that it would be formal that won. I thought that because they were female, and they are in college now, they would just write a formal text because that is what they do on a daily basis.
