Texting May Be Taking A Toll Analysis

Everyone does it; I do it, you do it, your parents do it, heck, even your future kids will probably be doing it; we all text. Teens all around the globe text on a daily basis to communicate with everyone from their parents to their friends and coworkers. In the past twenty years communication via texting has grown exponentially and is used primarily by teens and young adults. However, it is believed by psychologists and physicians that texting is, “leading to anxiety, distraction in school, failing grades, repetitive stress injury and sleep deprivation” (Hafner). In Katie Hafner’s article “Texting May Be Taking a Toll,” which was originally published in the New York Times on May 25, 2009, Hafner believes that teens that text a lot are doing harm unto themselves …show more content…
She clearly interviewed a variety of people to get a better outlook on the issue of texting. “’Texting can be an enormous tool’”, just with this one quote from Michael Hausauer, a psychotherapist from California, Hafner shows that there is more than one angle of vision to the story and she is able to provide us with both sides of the story, even if it goes against her possible belief that texting is bad (Hafner). She is able to present us with both the positives of texting as well as, the negatives or consequences that become of us, from texting. She not only writes about how texting can be psychologically damaging, but also how texting has been shown to be physically damaging to people to who text too much by adding in a personal experience from a high schooler. From this point on, she begins to incorporate a variety of people’s personal opinions on the topic of texting and even personal experiences that have occurred because of texting. She begins to write about a high schooler’s experience with her parents, how teachers feel about students’ texting in the classroom, and how parents feel about
