One article I have read written by William McCoy “How Does Texting During Class Affect Students”. He claims college students spend greater class time than ever playing with their smartphones and other digital devices this can be distracting for any college professor or student.Texting in class is pretty darn disrespectful when you’re trying to pay attention to class lessons or lectures. If I see someone texting it is no bother to me in the least but bothers the professor who teaching. Professors should ask students to put their cells on silent during class hours. Students should refrain till the end of class unless its urgent and must reply. When students aren’t listening they are losing on information that’s happening in class because

Texting in a classroom is one of the worst things you can do to yourself. Not only can it effect you, but it can also effect the people around you. In the article The Cost of Texting in the Classroom, Dakota Lawson and Bruce B. Henderson illustrate the effects of texting in the classroom by saying, “. . . research indicates that because of limited cognitive capacities, even simple texting can reduce comprehension of class material at a rate of 10-20%” (Pg. 120). In Tamara Brenner’s “The use of Mobile Devices in the College Classroom”, she finds that cellphones commonly lead to distraction in the classroom. She does acknowledge the positive uses of mobile devices such as learning apps that can greatly impact the functionality of the college course; however, she cites many studies that reveal the student’s poor ability to multitask. A student who texted during class was found to do worse off in class when it came to note-taking and understanding the material expressed in the class. Brenner also demonstrates an effect one student has over the neighboring students. In multiple surveys, the students who surrounded the one with the phone exhibited worse test scores than those who were further away from the…

When walking in the halls I can not help but notice students staring at their phone screens. Phones are a great asset, for we can talk to people from across the country in a matter of seconds. Many people find themselves spending too much time during their day looking at a screen. While people workout many of them are more concerned about the screen in front of them rather than exercising. Another big issue is people will check their phones while they are driving.…

I’ve considered three things about why Instructors ask students to turn off their cell phones in class. One being it’s very distracting to everyone in the classroom. It will take away everyone’s attention from the instructor and put the attention on the person’s ringing phone. Second, it can be a temptation for someone to cheat. The internet is filled with answers to so many different questions.…

Texting in the classroom has many negative impacts on students for many reasons. Students aren 't able to get proper information absorption , their writing has many grammar mistakes cause they are exposed to too much text talk and lastly it causes many students to cheat on their exams, and even if they’re just bored and zoning out. Students may think it’s okay when it really isn’t, and the truth comes out when you see charts and numbers showing a specific amount of how much students and others depend on these devices. “During Boring Classes Texting Is the New Doodling” by Michael Rubinkam expresses that there are many students that use their cellphones in classrooms at any given time rather than the things they should be doing in a classroom.…

Texting is very disturbing for everyone, causing no new information to be absorbed. According to Do Cell phones Belong In The Classroom by Robert Earl says, "However, when the teacher is busy helping out another student or writing on the board, out come the phones as students send instant messages to friends, listen to music, or watch videos on the internet. " Texting causes lots of complications and distraction and is an important reason why cell phones should be eliminated from schools.…

After i have read both of the essays on if texting is bad or not, I feel as though texting does not harm a student’s speaking/writing. I am a student myself and I have seen 0 changes since I have started texting. Many people believe that texting can hurt a child’s school work, but i believe that i can change what they think about texting. First of all, about 70% of students text and go to school at the same time. In this case, students use what’s called “code switching.”…

If they have an assignment that is due at the end of the hour, and they couldn’t get it done and would not know how to do it because they were on their phone while the teacher was talking. Their phone could be a distraction in class because if the teacher doesn’t notice and tell them to put it away then he/she won’t learn anything. When a student has their phone out then they won’t be focused on anything else, but when they don’t have their phone out, then they will listen better.…

Cell phones are great, but they just cause so many distractions in school. When students ask if they can look up something, they just gonna get on social media to look at how many likes they got on instagram or how many followers they have. Since we have been talking about cell phones as our writing unit, it made me think of so many reasons why we shouldn’t have cell phones in school. One example from an article called “ Schools seek balance for cellphones in class” says that the texting, tweeting, and Snapchatting during class time is an incredible distraction, and it makes it harder for teachers to teach. Another example from the article” Schools seek balance for cellphones in class” is teachers will get kids saying “ I’ll look something up for English, and while I’m here let me quickly check my Instagram or Twitter feed’ From this article, these were some good reasons why schools shouldn’t allow cell phone usage in school.…
