Texting Argumentative Essay

Texting allows people to text someone without interrupting them, but also it is useful for communicating with others. Texting also has many benefits like being sneaky or quickly updating someone about something. If someone is at a party and wants to leave, they can just text someone instead of someone hearing them. Texting decreases the risk of someone hearing a phone call and hearing someone say that they want to leave or that they are not enjoying it. It is much easier to just text someone to avoid the awkwardness if someone hears what is being said. Texting is easy to use because it can be used as reminding someone or may make it easier for people to responding to different situations. Texting is the easiest way to communicate but, …show more content…
Talking face-to-face with people can be challenging because maybe people are shy and aren’t good at communicating with others. “They bury themselves in text, hide behind texting, will say things through text that they wouldn't in a million years say to somebody face-to-face. That's not a good thing” (Roope). Face-to-face conversations are important because people fear of talking to people and carrying on a real conversation. “Many young people would rather exchange text messages than have a conversation the old-fashioned way: chatting on the phone, or even talking in person” (Gormly). Teens use texting as a distraction so they don’t have to walk up to someone to talk and they avoid talking because they might forget what to say or fear talking face-to-face. “In fact, you can observe them sitting within normal talking distance from each other yet instead of talking, they'll be texting a conversation” (Roope). Talking in person might seem more difficult because the other person in the conversation can be your crush or someone else who could ask questions that aren’t easy to answer. Texting can cause many problems because someone might be hiding their opinion about something instead of speaking up for themselves. Texting is an easier way to communicate, but it can change how we express ourselves to others in a negative …show more content…
In our world, no one learns about each other because they are distracted by social media. Without texting, many people could relate to one another because they wouldn’t be scared to express themselves. Texting impacts the relationships people can make with one another because they don’t actually communicate, they just text each other. While texting, it ruins the world because it separates the world a part and it ruins the chance to learn about others. Texting allows people to hide because they are afraid of facing the real world because they are scared to be judged. By talking face-to-face, the community will grow together and can get to know each other

Luyando Mpundu EN 112 Dr Clark 19th September 2015 Summary and Response to No need to call by Sherry Turkle In the article, No need to call, the author talks about how text messaging and social media media is playing a huge role in the improvement of self esteem and self confidence among some shy teens. She uses Elaine, a teen who texts each of her 6 friends about 20 times every day, as a huge part in her. Turkle claims that social media is positive for the most part because people are able to express themselves more openly and don't have to worry about the pressure that comes with talking in person. She brings up a point about how when talking to people in person, people to pause to think about what message they want to get across and…

You can present yourself as you wish to be 'seen '" (388). Although I do concede that if used improperly, texting can become a means of only surface communication-communication that involves no deeper meaning or, as Turkle puts it, the "staccato texts" (387) . If texting is used to meet people, to build relationships, and further them off the screen, it can become a practical tool. Wortham supports my argument that technology is beneficial if used as a tool by saying it can help "people who want to build their relationships through the screen as well as beyond it" (397). Texting and new "matching-apps," such as Tinder and Bumble, provide a means of potentially fostering new relationships with people you may otherwise never have known.…

Texting allows a typed message to be received and transferred between cellphones. Texting has led to the down fall of face to face communication, and horrible grammar. It has allowed people to abbreviate and make their own version of the written and vocal English language for example cuz which is short for because, or LOL which is short for laugh out loud. Text messages can be interpreted in many different ways this can led to drama or problems of all sorts if it is misunderstood in the wrong way. The main reason is because a phone call takes up to much time, while texting is a quick, straight to the point type of communication. I’m also able to hide what I believe to be my conversational flaws from the other person. Texting to people is a much safer way to hide their identity and disconnect from the…

    1. I think that I would rather have a conversation with others in phone because it limits the chances of misinterpretations. I mostly text my friends or family because if they’re busy with something, it is just more convenient for them to check their phone and see that I texted them. Another great reason I rather text is because I come from a big family and if there was an emergency, one person’s text can be sent to everyone in my family text group. The only thing that I hate is because I can send anything with emotion in the message, so conflicts would arise.…
