Texting And Driving Persuasive Speech

There is a new epidemic that is sweeping across the world. It is 100% preventable; however it is killing many people everyday. Its’ name is texting and driving. Automobile accidents, caused by texting and driving, are increasing more each and every day. Smart phones have made it easy for us to stay connected at all times, but it has also made it easy for us to become distracted while driving. Will this epidemic ever cease? The best way to end distracted driving is to try and educate everyone about the danger it poses. Twenty years ago, texting and driving was never even heard of. Drivers did not have cell phones to be distracted by. However, that is not the case anymore. In fact, texting and driving leads to roughly 1.6 million car crashes each year. Of all cell phone related tasks, texting is by far the most dangerous activity. Even more dangerous than driving while intoxicated. Texting requires visual, manual, and cognitive attention from the driver; therefore, making it the most alarming distraction on the road. 1 out of every 4 car accidents in the United States is caused by texting and driving. Thus, 1 out of every 4 car accidents could be prevented by simply putting one’s phone away while driving. I would first suggest, if a driver receives a text while operating a vehicle, stop and think whether it’s worth risking your safety—and that of others in your car and on the road—to read a text while driving. Even though there is a growing awareness of the dangers of texting while driving, that has not done much to help drivers resist the urge themselves. There are many apps available that have the ability to block incoming messages or phone calls while operating a vehicle.
