This is John Breen. John spent March 15, 2009 with his family in St. Francisville Illinois, before deploying to Afghanistan. That night, while driving, John was texting with a friend. He lost control of his vehicle and veered off the road. He was ejected from the vehicle and died from a massive skull fracture. John left behind parents, a brother, and countless friends who all miss him terribly. But what hurts most, John has a beautiful two-year-old little girl who will never fully understand what an amazing man her dad was. John knew better. In fact, not 24 hours before his crash his father warned him to “Put that phone down, it’s controlling your life.” Yet, he still chose to text while driving. And he paid the ultimate price. No parent should have to go through the pain that they went through and continue to go through each and every day. The issue has ascended regarding the use of phones while driving because phones have become such a necessity now a days. People do not realize that picking up their phone to text someone back is putting their life to risk and others on the roads. Driving is a dangerous act in itself, which is why we have age requirements and driver’s education courses to meet and pass before we are even allowed to drive. If you text while you drive you greatly increase your chances of crashing into another car, driving off the road, injuring yourself and any other passengers, or even killing yourself or someone else. It's hard to believe that so many teens feel the need to pull their phones out while driving to immediately text people
