Day after day people see news reports talking about accidents caused by texting while driving, yet none of it seems to get to anyone. Texting and driving is not only illegal, but also dangerous. Every day there are people around the globe that are killed in a car accident only because they were on their cell phone. There are multiple people who cause the accident because of texting and driving, while the ones that weren’t on their cell phones are the ones to die. That’s not right is it? Well no, it shouldn’t be someone’s life you’re taking because texting someone “LOL” or “OMG” back just can’t wait until you’re off the road. While you are in the car do yourself and everyone else on the road a favor and put your phone and down and don’t get on it until you are stopped. Year after year the death percentage rises because some people just can’t wait to text or talk on their phone.
In 2008, transportation officials said in a report that 5,870 people were killed and 515,000 were injured last year in crashes where at least one form of driver distraction was reported. Driver distraction was involved in 16 percent of all fatal crashes. Eighteen states and the District of Columbia have passed laws making texting while driving illegal, and seven states and the district have banned driving while talking on a handheld cell phone.
