The targeted searches of student lockers, backpacks, and vehicles, when there is reasonable cause to suspect that student(s) to be in possession of items prohibited by school codes, and sometimes law, is well within the school officials’ rights to do so. These schools have an obligation to protect their students, whose safety is entrusted to them by the parents, and the schools should do what is necessary to preserve that safety. Most, if not all, schools in the United States have hand books, schools code books, etc. that both the student, and their parents must sign before admission into the school.
