Even though inflation, the rising material costs, and shipping costs are making the price of textbooks rise sharply to cover the cost of production, it is evident the prices of college textbooks are being artificially inflated to make the publishers outrageous amounts of money while making it harder for lower income students to afford books. Because college textbooks have increased in price over 1000 percent since 1977, some students are now paying almost 1000$ on books a year. Furthermore out of 79 cents for each dollar spent on a text book the author only gets 11 cents, the remainder goes to the publisher. These and other fact show that textbook costs are rising out of control and something needs to be done about
