How teen’s text in messaging has shown to severely affect their writing. The terrifying part is, teens are able to reach a point where they are no longer able to see the difference between formal and informal writing. According to the study by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, in partnership with the College Board’s National Commission on Writing: “Nearly two-thirds of 700 students surveyed said their e-communication style sometimes bled into school assignments. About half said they sometimes omitted proper punctuation and capitalization in schoolwork. A quarter said they had used emoticons like smiley faces. About a third said they had used text shortcuts like “LOL” for “laugh out loud” ( Lewin, Tamar. “Informal Style of Electronic Messages Is Showing Up in Schoolwork, Study Finds”). The fact that text messaging is able to affect one’s health is not all surprising. There have been several cases in the media and articles, where teens have received a medical condition called ‘Text Neck.’ ‘Text Neck’ occurs from teens having improper posture while spending countless hours away on their phones. Doctor Fisherman, a chiropractic physician has even created an app called ‘Text Neck Indicator’ educating people how to properly hold their mobile device for a decreased chance of ‘Text Neck.’ Unfortunately, the effect in teen’s health doesn’t stop
