I'm in the field working on picking cotton. It is a really hot day out here in Texas it feels like its one hundred degrees. I'm about to finish when my master calls me and the other slaves over to the shed.Runaways,plantation work for slaves,slave punishment. The master tells us to stand in a straight line shoulder to shoulder. The master then calls to the overseer to unlock the shed and to bring him out. When the overseer opens the door he grabs a former slave who had ranaway a week ago. The master tells the overseer to tie him around the tree in front of the shed. The master then takes a whip from the overseer and starts to whip the former slave. When he is done the master tell us if we try and run away that we will receive the same punishment. …show more content…
My brother was at the market trying to steal us some clothes and almost got away with some shirts. When he was starting to leave the market he was caught stealing some bread that we were going to eat. The local officer identified him as a slave and put him on a slave cart back down to the south. Slave Branding,Food for slaves. The local officer saw the brand that was on my brother's neck and realized he belonged to Texas and was a runaway. Now that my brother is gone I have no food and no clothes and it's starting to get colder. Uncle Tom's Cabin. I overheard a conversation between two white folks about a book name Uncle Tom’s Cabin. The book is based on the cruelty inflicted on slave’s and how we are treated.

I have not been able to leave Kentucky just yet. There are a lot of Southerners and I am all by myself. Housing for Slave’s. I have no house to live in.     When Frederick Douglass described this bloody transaction, it involved slaves being whipped to the point of death if convicted of a crime. These crimes could be as simple as a misdemeanor up to a high crime such as running away or rebelling against the slave master all of which meet the slave punishment which was the whip.
