When the first Americans stepped foot on Texas, the Mexicans already had a set of rules that the American must follow. Most of the American came into Texas illegally, the Americans did not follow Mexico’s laws. This has caused more tension between the Americans and Mexicans. The Mexicans told the Americans if they do not follow the laws they would have to leave Texas. The Americans also had a need to expand their country. That need is called manifest destiny, the Americans loved the idea of expanding their territory. The idea of manifest destiny came from this journalist named John O’Sullivan. Once Texas declared their independence, before Texas declared its independence, Mexico had opened the area for people to come in legally because Texas was a very empty part of Mexico. Once the volunteered soldiers were settled in they were controlled by General John E. Wool. The volunteered troops met up with General Taylor troops and they became one. June of 1846, Americans announced that California is an independent republic and the Americans already wrote a constitution for California. General Taylor troops followed the Mexican troops to a place called Monterey, they both fought. The Americans won victory again, this was The Battle of Monterey. On December of 1846 Antonio López de Santa Anna became Mexico’s President again. On February 22 and February 23 another war was happening it was near Buena Vista. The Mexican troops had more soldiers than the American troops, but the Americans won. This was a battle at Buena
