And I personally agree with Lincoln about the abolishing of slavery, because it always hurt me to see my dad whipping a slave for stealing a scrap of food or not doing something right. But everyone has two sides of their story. Well Texas plays a huge part of the cotton-based economy; it’s planters depend heavily/mostly depend of slave labor. So about 30% of Texas population of 640,000 are slaves. So obviously, planters weren’t going to give up the most important source of making money. So all in all, “Texas abandoned her separate national existence and consented to become one of the confederated states to promote her welfare, insure domestic tranquility and secure more substantially the blessings of peace and liberty to her people.” (primary source: Texas secession declaration of causes) all this to protect the institution of slavery. Which I think is pretty dumb, I mean why not just find workers, and pay them to do the labor slaves were doing? Or why not just stop all this nonsense and just actually find other solutions to this problem instead of getting up and leaving the union, because as of right now Texas has no desires to unite desires with the south. oh Emma what do you think about all
