Texas Government Role

The governor's office is responsible for many things. Agenda settings is one of the first step in the process of policy making and the actions are identified by multiple people including the governor He is responsible for implementing state laws and overseeing the operations of the state executive branch .With the governor being chief executive he is responsible for making ensuring that our state is prepared for emergencies and disasters of any kind because most are handled on a local level. The Governor coordinates with the state legislature to make the approval of state budgets and appropriations.He can veto bills passed by Legislature,serve as the commander-in-chief of the state’s military force,extend the time period of a legislative session to focus on a specific topic is also called a special session.He can also grant reprieves and pardons upon the recommendation of the Board of Pardons and Paroles and, call special elections to fill spots in elected offices. Abbott has had leadership roles in many organizations including, Governor’s Committee to Promote Adoption, Justice for All, Central Texas Chapter of Goodwill Industries. He is the 50th Attorney General of Texas.In 1995 Greg Abbott Was a justice on the Texas Supreme Court which he was appointed in to by Governor at the time George W. bush. Greg Abbott served in cases as the lawsuit against sony BMG being the first state to bring legal action against Sony BMG for illegal spyware, Van orden v. Perry,where Abbott defended a Ten Commandments monument on texas State Capitol Grounds .He was then twice elected to the highest civil court in 1996 serving a two-year term and 1998 serving a six-year term .
