Texas Children's Integrated Delivery System Case Study

Texas Children’s Integrated Delivery System (TCH IDS) has penetrated the market by increasing the amount of system based community pediatric provider offices, adding two smaller community based hospitals (West Campus/Woodlands), opening urgent care facilities throughout communities that surround Houston, opening a state of the art women’s health center (Women’s Pavilion), each hospital campus has an ambulatory side that has diverse specialties offered, and offer a CHIP and Medicare insurance specifically geared to children. There are not many strategies that TCH IDS has not put into motion, however an organization can always improve further to enhance productivity, functionality, and quality of services offered. Better market penetration through outreach and education programs would increase the level of commitment from the organization to the community being served, marketing efforts would automatically be increased due to name and specialty recognition, and patient level of trust for services would be heightened to the point of TCH becoming the place of choice for treating all pediatric patients in the community. TCH has a lot to offer in terms of health education for the communities it serves. With the organization being specialized to pediatric care, it is easy to promote the services that would improve the overall health of pediatric patients that suffer with chronic conditions. In order to implement these outreach education programs each community hospital or clinic would need to dedicate a team that makes this strategy a focus. A task force would be assigned to identify and assess the chronic illness education or outreach needs for the demographics of the community. This could be accomplished in many ways such as community surveys mailed out, phone calls made to patients that have visited the hospital or clinic, along with chart audits from the Emergency Center. Post research to identify needs, representatives from the organization would need to visit surrounding schools, daycares, and child programs in order to introduce the organization and explain the outreach programs or education that would be offered. The education material would need to be created and the team would need to make consistency of utmost importance when delivering the education to the community.
