In the older version, it is more realistic and scary, between the killings and the events that occurred. It was also more gross and bloody than the remake version of it. The beginning of each movie was slightly different from each others. In the original movie, a group of kids are in a van and spot a smelly hitchhiker in the road that flagged him down. When the hitchhiker got into the van, he started a fire and attacked one of the passenger until he was thrown out. In the remake it went a little more differently. While driving, they see a girl who appears too look as if she was just hit by a bus, and while getting flagged down by her, they stopped and when they talk to her, she takes out a gun and then shoots herself in the head which can give the viewer an idea of how the rest of the movie is going to go. Throughout the original movie, Leatherface manages to never take off his face mask whereas in the remake he does. By keeping the mask on, it gives the viewer suspicion and curiosity of what is underneath that mask. In the original movie, it is more scary because let’s face it, they didn’t really have to follow the “horror film rules” which basically made it a free for all with no restrictions.
