The furthest I had ever traveled was San Antonio so I didn’t know what is was to interact with people that viewed the world differently than I did. Prior to the trip, the most prominent worry I had was whether or not I’d be able to compete with the athletes around me. On the way to College Station I realized that above all else, I should worry about getting along with my fellow camp-mates due to the fact that one can have all the talent in the world, but if getting along with …show more content…

I felt intimidated being around kids that were used to big houses and fancy cars. At one point I overheard a group kids talking about the vehicles they were set to receive in a year at the age of fifteen. The concept of receiving something before working for it was foreign to me. I felt out place and thought it’d be impossible to make new friends or even start a conversation with another athlete in attendance. After the first practice session I proceeded to eat dinner with the same group of kids who were talking about obtaining new vehicles when they turned fifteen. Questions arise all the time about how some kids do better at standardized testing, homework assignments, or even classwork than other students. Some people think that the answer lies in a textbook buried in the deepest and darkest corners of the world, or a school library, however, this idea would be wrong. The answer lies in a psychological thought process that allows people to see that the answer is in the student’s motivation itself. Although many try to use positive reinforcement or negative reinforcement to train students to study or learn a piece of information, the drive has to come from the student’s own intrinsic motivational drives. In other words, the student has to want to do it instead of being made to do it.…

“Don’t cry.” I repeated this to myself over and over as I, a fourth-grader at the time, nervously walked onto a soccer field for my first practice ever. “Just don’t cry.” The cool fall breeze ruffled my hair as thoughts of regret swirled around in my brain. “Why did I sign up for this?”…

Every year, I would work my hardest to improve my skills to try out for my high school's girls’ soccer team. Little did I know that one simple snap could change everything. On a balmy Saturday afternoon in May of 2014, I was preparing to do the usual soccer game with my co-ed recreation team.…

The sport in its entirety is what I came to love. So, I’m still following a soccer-centric path as much as possible. Along the way, I guess my passion wasn’t seen by only me, later giving me the opportunity to become my school’s varsity team’s videographer, something I’ll never be able to fully express my gratitude for. It’s gotten to the point where bringing up the sport to friends is just verbal diarrhea for them. Yet, they’ve never gotten fed up, and that’s just it.…

When I began my first year of kickball, I wasn’t athletic, I had asthma and I didn’t have much of an idea of how to play. Slowly but surely, every practice, I would learn more and more about how the game functioned. My first year wasn’t great, none of us on the team had any conception of what we were doing, but the significant thing was that we were all working in conjunction as diligently as we could at every practice to develop our skills. After the first game, we began to grasp the notion that the more that we supported each other during the game, the better we did on the field. Throughout the season, our coach made it clear to us that it didn’t matter if we won or lost, as long as we tried our best, stayed enthusiastic, and enjoyed ourselves.…
