Great post Jess! You covered some great points about Macrolides, Tetracyclines, and the importance of medication interactions with both other medications and some types of food. For example, you stated tetracyclines are prevented from being absorbed with food, antacids, and dairy products. With that being said, as the nurse it is crucial to give this medication in a timely manner before meals. I would like to add specifically for Macrolides, side effects occur more in the GI tract. Some side effects include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and the severe increase in sun sensitivity. Thus stressing the importance of preventative skin care to prevent sun burns.
